“Ceremony focuses attention, so that attention becomes intention. If you stand together and profess a thing before your community, it holds you accountable.” Robin Wall Kimmerer
The spring equinox marks the end of the dark half of the year, which at the same time stands for the arrival of new life energy. In nature, this can be observed by small plants breaking through the surface after periods of germination underground. For Terravibe, we were ready to enter the city of Zürich with our first public event.
Matching the occasion, we were invited to host a soil ceremony at the Vernissage of the very last exhibition at OFFSPACE FLÜELA, a platform for alternative approaches to art that operate at the intersection of contemporary art and subversive forms of expression. The interim use of this extraordinary offspace had come to an end and had to make room for the launch of the construction of Koch Quartier. It was a great occasion to celebrate the cycles of life, where the passing of something old opens space for the emergence of something new.
Ceremonies transcend the boundaries of the individual and resonate beyond the human realm. If you stand together and profess a thing before your community, it holds you accountable. Guided by experienced ceremony & ritual leader Melinda Nina Garcia, we deeply connected to the space ahead, feeling into what may be appropriate in this moment. Situated in a rather industrial quarter of Zürich, the old building was surrounded by 9 beautiful trees which we chose to honor and celebrate ahead of their being taken down a few short weeks later. Through calling in the four natural elements and 7 directions, we consciously closed the dark half of the year, bid goodbye to Offspace Flüelastrasse and officially activated the regenerative mycelium of the city.
